Based in New York City, David Burgstahler is a co-founder of Avista Healthcare Partners. Between 2005 and 2016, he leveraged his experience at DLJ Merchant Banking to play a foundational role in the development of Avista’s investment strategy and long-term vision. He formulated and promoted Avista’s focus on business transformation and operational depth within high-growth, product-oriented healthcare markets. In 2009, David Burgstahler expanded his leadership responsibilities by becoming the President of Avista Healthcare Partners, a position he held through 2016. He defined his time as President by conducting a thorough overhaul of Avista’s operational and investing strategies, which allowed for continued sustainable growth.
More recently, David Burgstahler has driven Avista Healthcare Partners' operations in his position as Managing Partner and CEO. He oversees all strategic direction and operational governance initiatives at the company, in addition to his work in areas of advanced succession planning via the advancement of next-generation innovators. He has instilled a category captain structure and strategic executive network that has allowed for both business continuity and scaling, facilitating Avista's capacity for consistent value creation.
David Burgstahler holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. In addition to his leadership roles at Avista, he has served as Trustee and Secretary of the Trinity School in New York City and as Trustee and Treasurer of the Diller-Quaile School of Music.
